Message :I switched my JWT 500 cam/JUN spring to Tomei PROCAM(solid type)/Tomei springs.
:JWT's lift = 9.7mm (0.382") Measured.
:Tomei's Lift = 10.35mm (0.407"). Measured Tomei's lift is actually 10.4mm (0.409").
:I measured JUN's spring solid height is 0.92" and 0.93" for the Tomei spring. Measured installed spring height is 1.370"
:For JWT cam/JUN spring, clearance before coil bind is 1.370"(installed height)-0.382"(lift)-0.92"(solid height) = 0.068" which is more than 0.050" minimum clearance recommended.
:For Tomei cam/spring, clearance before coil bind = 1.370"-0.409"-0.93" = 0.031" !!! I'm short of 20 thousand clearance.
:I have talked to some local race shop gurus, some said it's not ok and some said it'll be fine since most production vehicle have about 30 to 40 thousand clearance. I need more opinion if anyone can help me out on this.
:My machinist is going to make a set of titanium retainers for me. I need some answer so that I can tell him to copy the stock retainers or machine a +0.030" retainers to get the clearance I need. Thanks a lot!!

I read, and re-read your post so I could understand it as much as possible. Assuming the minimum .050 clearance is real world/recommended minimum... then I would highly recommend you get the .030 that you need.
If you don't, you are risking whether or not the valve seats completely. And depending on how your valve seats are worked, you may need some of that .050 clearance...

Hope this helps. It sounds like you can do no wrong by getting your .030, while if you dont... you may have to pull the heads and rework them anyway.

IMHO.
